PEARL JAM Invites All Five Drummers To ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME Induction Ceremony
March 11, 2017PEARL JAM has invited all five of the band's drummers — Dave Krusen, Matt Chamberlain, Dave Abbruzzese, Jack Irons and Matt Cameron — to its upcoming Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony.
Only original drummer Dave Krusen and current drummer Matt Cameron have been chosen for induction by the Hall. Abbruzzese, Jack Irons and brief interim drummer Matt Chamberlain have been left out.
Abbruzzese joined the band in 1991 for the "Ten" tour, and played on two of its biggest and most important albums, 1993's "Vs." and 1994's "Vitalogy". His stint with the group ended that year, after which Irons came on board for a four-year run.
In a handwritten note posted on the band's Twitter, the members of PEARL JAM said that they "feel fortunate to be recognized and provided the opportunity to reunite with everyone who has been part of the group.
"Specifically the drummers who all left their distinctive mark on our band in the pre-Matt Cameron years," they added.
"Dave Krusen, Matt Chamberlain, Dave Abbruzzese and Jack Irons are each individually great players who gave their all to the early recordings and live gigs," the band continued in the statement. "Looking forward to seeing them and all the other musicians on the bill."
Abbruzzese last year expressed his displeasure with not being included in the PEARL JAM induction, saying: "The qualifications required for me to have been inducted with my former bandmates certainly have been met. I challenge anyone to justify why I am not worthy of a place in the history of PEARL JAM."
PEARL JAM guitarist Mike McCready told The Pulse Of Radio that the choice was not the band's but the Hall Of Fame's.
Meanwhile, Krusen, who Krusen played in PEARL JAM during its formative months and left shortly after the recording of its 1991 debut album "Ten", was asked if he would be up for jamming with his former bandmates at the Hall Of Fame ceremony in April. He told Rolling Stone: "I think the fans would dig that. I'd love to do it … I don't think it is likely, but I'm down."
The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony will take place on Friday, April 7 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
An edited version of the 32nd annual Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony will later air on HBO and there will be a radio broadcast on SiriusXM.
Artists are eligible for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 25 years after the release of their first album or single.
